The Cuban Wheel
Rueda (Rueda de Casino, Casino Rueda, Salsa Rueda) is a particular type of salsa performed by two or more couples. It was developed in Havana, Cuba in the 1960s and has since spread around the salsa world.
Pairs of dancers form a circle, with dance moves called out by a 'Líder' or 'Cantante'. Many of the moves involve the swapping of partners.
The names of the moves are mostly in Spanish but some are in English.
Traditionally the different towns in Cuba used their own calls and still to this day there are a bewildering number of names!
As you can imagine Rueda causes a huge amount of confusion but it is great fun!
Banana Republica host a Rueda evening on the 2nd (Second) Wednesday of each month at the Hornchurch venue
with specialist Rueda teacher Paulos taking the higher classes and Wolfie taking the beginners.
