Fequently Asked Questions
Do I need to book my lesson in advance?
No. Our classes do not have a course structure so there is no need to book. It also means that there is no need to come every week as classes never depend on the previous weeks lesson. Just make sure you take a class at the appropriate level and you will have no difficulty whether or not you came the previous week.
Do I need to bring a dance partner?
No, you do not need a partner. Salsa is of course a partner dance but we rotate dance partners very briskly within the lesson. Its a great way to meet new people and get used to different partners.
What shoes should I wear?
The first rule is BE COMFORTABLE, it sounds obvious but every week we have students complaining about their shoes! The second rule is NO TRAINERS or any other footwear with a grip sole; you have to be able to spin, so smooth soles please. And regardless of fashion - a small heel please ladies!
What clothes should I wear?
Its important to be comfortable and dancing can generate a lot of heat so we recommend cotton. In the winter wear layers - you will get hot! Black is the standard wear for salseros; black T-shirt and black trousers for the guys, black dress for the ladies, but it is not compulsory! The exception is Monday nights - we all dress down on Mondays!
What do I get for my money?
You get a 55 minute class plus freestyle dancing until at least 11pm. Additionaly absolute beginners receive a 10 minute introduction lesson.
Apart from special circumstances and in order to maintain the quality of the lessons we ask that students take just one class per evening.
Are any discounts available?
We give loyalty discounts: After your first visit of the week all subsequent visits have a £3 discount. (Its like having your first drink on us!)
Where can I practise my salsa?
We organise regular trips to other clubs in Essex, Herts and London where we know you will receive a warm welcome.
There are so many salsa styles! Which is best?
There is no 'best'! All the different syles are just different flavours of the same dance. We ensure that all our ladies can follow ANY style and we give the guys a taste of various styles. Our guest teachers also provide their own individual take on salsa so you should get a good overview of the salsa scene within a few weeks.
